Near-Earth Asteroid Close Approaches
Earth-crossing asteroids and comets cataloged by NASA JPL Center for Near-Earth Object Studies (CNEOS).
What is a Close Approach?
Astronomers classify an encounter as a "close approach" when a celestial object passes within 0.2 astronomical units (roughly 30 million kilometers or 78 times the distance to the Moon). Very few close approaches pose any hazard; they provide rare scientific opportunities for radar imaging and orbital tracking.
